Whilst doing initial research into the Dark Ages, we came
across a few things of interest on which we could possibly base our animation
on. During the period of 800-900 AD there were several historical events which
had a dramatic impact upon the world, involving wars, inventions and
architectural advances. After further research, we managed to reduce the
factors down to two main choices, Alfred the Great and the invention of the
first gunpowder.
Alfred the Great is a historical figure who during his reign
in the 800’s brought economical and military structure to England , along
with his strong religious beliefs. He defended England from a Viking invasion, and
after doing so, was the first English monarch to be accorded the epithet "the Great".
The first gunpowder was accidentally invented in china when
alchemists were trying to create the elixir of life. This invention changed the
course of history and warfare, providing the basis for modern military weapons
today.
We are currently continuing research into these two subjects
to decide which would prove a better subject for our animation, as well as
further research into the Dark Ages as an era.
